What the law requires
Which policy students need
A long-term visa or residence permit for study needs comprehensive health insurance for your whole stay, with a limit of at least €400,000 per claim and no excess. A policy from any insurer licensed for this type of insurance will do.
The first 90 days can be covered by an emergency care policy and the rest by comprehensive insurance. In a consultation, we will tell you which option works better for you.
Timing
When to arrange your policy
For your first visa, you show the policy when you collect your visa at the embassy, not when you apply. You can arrange it remotely before you come to the Czech Republic.
To renew a residence permit, you apply before your current permit expires, and the application needs a policy for the new period. You can arrange the new policy in advance, starting on the date you need, so there is no gap between policies.

Choosing insurance for your child who studies here?
You can start with a consultation for parents. We will explain the options and the steps, and what details and involvement we will need from the student. For children under 18, we first check the type of stay.

+420 722 957 500How much does student insurance cost?
The price depends on the type of policy, the period of cover and your age. Write to us or leave your phone number, and we will tell you the price. The consultation is free and does not commit you to anything.
Do all students need commercial insurance?
No. It depends on your citizenship, age, type of stay and whether you are in the public health insurance system. For example, foreigners under 18 with long-term residence are covered by the public system, while a long-term visa alone does not give that right. If you are already insured through an employer or on other grounds, check first whether you need a separate policy. Rules for minors on the Czech Interior Ministry website.
Can I arrange a policy in advance?
Yes. The policy starts on the date you need, for example the day your current policy ends.
Can parents arrange the policy?
Yes. You can start with a consultation for parents. We will explain the options and how to arrange the policy, and tell you what details and involvement we will need from the student. For children under 18, we first check the type of stay.
