Frequently asked questions
Cannot find the answer? Write or call, and we will reply during office hours.
+420 722 957 500How much does student insurance cost?
The price depends on the type of policy, the period of cover and your age. Write to us or leave your phone number, and we will tell you the price. The consultation is free and does not commit you to anything.
Do all students need commercial insurance?
No. It depends on your citizenship, age, type of stay and whether you are in the public health insurance system. For example, foreigners under 18 with long-term residence are covered by the public system, while a long-term visa alone does not give that right. If you are already insured through an employer or on other grounds, check first whether you need a separate policy. Rules for minors on the Czech Interior Ministry website.
What insurance do I need for a study visa or residence permit?
Comprehensive health insurance for your whole stay, with a limit of at least €400,000 and no excess. The first 90 days can be covered by an emergency care policy and the rest by comprehensive insurance.
When do I need a policy for my first visa?
You show the policy when you collect your visa at the embassy, not when you apply. You can arrange it remotely before you come to the Czech Republic.
When should I get a policy to renew my residence permit?
You apply for a renewal before your current permit expires, and the application needs a policy for the new period. You can arrange the new policy in advance, starting on the date you need.
Do you advise on visas and residence permits?
Yes, free of charge. We answer questions about visas and residence permits and tell you which policy you need and for how long. We do not prepare applications or documents.
Who issues the policy?
The policy is issued by an insurance company. We work with six: AXA, PVZP, SV pojišťovna, UNIQA, Colonnade and Kooperativa. The general partner of Finex Group is Inter Partner Assistance S.A., an insurer in the international AXA group. Since 2013, Finex Group has worked as an independent insurance intermediary registered with the Czech National Bank.
My parents want to visit. Do they need insurance?
Yes, a visa for up to 90 days needs an emergency care policy. You can also arrange it with us remotely.
What should I do if I need a doctor?
Find the insurer’s assistance line on your policy. Ask where to go, whether you need approval and how the visit will be paid. Keep your policy, medical reports and receipts. If you need help finding your way, write to Finex during office hours. In a life-threatening emergency, call 155 or 112.
