What to do if you fall ill
A short guide for people with a commercial policy: who to call, how to see a doctor and what to keep so your insurance pays for your treatment.
- 155ambulance
- 112emergency number for all services
Step by step
If you need a doctor
Find the insurer’s assistance line on your policy. Call it and ask where to go, whether you need approval and how the visit will be paid.
Take your policy and passport with you. If the clinic does not work directly with your insurer, you may be asked to pay yourself, and the insurer will refund you later based on your documents.
Keep your policy, medical reports and receipts. You will need them if the insurer is to refund your costs.
Urgent
In a life-threatening emergency
Call 155 (ambulance) or 112 (emergency number for all services). Let your insurer know what happened as soon as you can.
